In the last lecture of the Jalsa Salana Nigeria 2023, the Sadr, Majlis Khuddam Ahmadiyya Nigeria has sensitized on the need for parents and Muslim Faithful to be aware of the benefits and adverse effects of social media on society on Sunday, 24th December, 2023.
In his address, Mr. Akinyemi mentioned that the evils of fornication and trespasses of the eyes are common due to the media, hence, it is important to be watchful. He said, “Do not let children sit in front of TV when vulgar programs are shown and be mindful of their use of Internet”.
The Sadr admonished that television and the Internet pose challenges, leading individuals in many homes to neglect Fajr Salat due to late-night viewing, he continued that habitual behavior diminishes the importance of morning prayers, emphasizing the need for parents to guide their children in the responsible use of these technologies to preserve religious duties.
The National Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organisation also stated, “Islam promotes moderation in all aspects of life, including our interaction with social media. While these platforms provide opportunities for connection and information sharing, excessive use or obsessive attachment can deviate one from the path of moderation.”
“Muslims are called to be ambassadors of their faith online, embodying the principles of respect, kindness, and moral conduct in their digital interactions. Huzoor has said, In this state of moral regression and degradation, an Ahmadi has to teach the high standard of morality and virtue”, he added.
In his last note, Mr. Akinyemi said, “Every Ahmadi, most importantly, the youth should be especially cognizant of not getting ensnared by the transgressions shown by the Media; otherwise, they may lose their faith”.
