SPREADING LOVE AT JALSA

By AbdulHakeem Babarinde

As the blessed occasion of Jalsa Salana Nigeria approaches, participants from all walks of life eagerly await a unique opportunity of spiritual reformation, moral upliftment, and, most importantly, the spreading of love among attendees. At its core, Jalsa Salana is more than just an annual gathering; it is a profound embodiment of the teachings of Islam—rooted in peace, love, and unity.

Founded by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), the Promised Messiah and Mahdi, Jalsa Salana serves as a platform to foster spiritual growth and establish a genuine connection between individuals through the shared bond of faith. The Promised Messiah (as) emphasised that the primary purpose of Jalsa is to instill the love of Allah in the hearts of attendees and to nurture a spirit of compassion and humility. He advised:

“Come here purely for the sake of Allah, not for any worldly purpose. Purify your hearts of rancour, and let love prevail.”This call remains relevant today, especially in a world where divisions and misunderstandings often threaten social harmony.

One of the features of Jalsa is its wide attendance by people of different backgrounds, cultures, languages, ethnic groups and walks of life and this gathering shows or demonstrates the Islamic teaching which says everyone no matter the colour, race is equal.

The fifth khalifa and the current worldwide head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba) mentioned in his past address at the UK Jalsa while addressing volunteers that ‘their service should be an embodiment of kindness, humility, and hospitality. He has advised volunteers to treat all attendees with respect, patience, and care, regardless of the challenges faced. He encourages them to see their work as a spiritual responsibility and a way to demonstrate true Islamic values.

Spreading love during Jalsa can be achieved through sincere service, patience, and compassion, reflecting the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa)… Small acts such as offering assistance, greeting warmly, and creating an inclusive environment foster a spirit of unity. The Prophet (sa) emphasized, “Spread peace amongst yourselves” (Sahih Muslim), highlighting the importance of genuine connections. Attendees, too, play a crucial role by engaging with others kindly, offering help when needed, and showing patience and forgiveness. By maintaining a positive attitude and focusing on brotherhood, everyone contributes to making Jalsa a true reflection of love and harmony.

The true success of Jalsa Salana is measured not only by what happens during the three-day event but also by how attendees carry the spirit of love and unity into their daily lives. By applying these values, the participants can become beacons of light within their communities, fostering a culture of respect and harmony.

As we prepare for this year’s Jalsa, let’s all try to make this gathering a memorable gathering where love, peace, and tranquillity is fostered through our actions, words and intentions. In doing this we are going to fulfill the reason why Allah through the Promised Messiah established Jalsa and the Ahmadiyya Muslim community as a whole which also resonates with the true meaning and essence of our religion ISLAM.

May this year’s Jalsa be a source of spiritual reform, blessings and personal transformation for us all and above all a celebration of peace and love.

As salam alaikum warahmatulla wabarakatuhu
