In a compelling speech during the 69th Jalsa Salana Nigeria, Mukarram AbdulQahhar Olowonmi illuminated the audience with profound insights into the guiding principles of Taqwa, while establishing its deep connection to true justice and lasting peace.
Olowonmi’s lecture which was the second discourse of the Jalsa Nigeria 2023 passionately explored the theme ‘Taqwa: Pathway to Justice and Peace, where he emphasized that Taqwa – Righteousness, serves as the moral compass shaping every facet of human life. He articulated, “God-consciousness or righteousness is the true magnetic fillip that will invite peace and justice into the human social space.”
He added that “Taqwa is a unique concept encapsulating the believer’s state of alertness, caution, seriousness and sense of duty. It acts as a channel through which Muslims relate with one another in the society and also a medium to link their actions”, he added.
*Navigating through the intricacies of economic justice, the renowned scholar drew on Islamic principles to address pressing issues such as usury, timely payments, and the importance of equitable economic practices, considering it as a true change to foster peace and justice. He asserted, “One of the major constituents of a peaceful society is its economic affairs. In other words, a nation cannot be peaceful if its economic aspect is unjust and inequitable.” He stressed the necessity for every nation to handle the economic situation of its people with the principles of justice and equity.
Olowonmi’s call for peaceful coexistence resonated throughout his lecture, emphasizing the pivotal role of justice, respect, and friendship in forging a harmonious society. He added insightful perspectives on how Islam enjoins Muslims to explore peace and tranquility in their interaction with non-Muslims.
As he unfolded the roadmap to societal harmony, the cleric left the audience inspired and enlightened, urging them to integrate Taqwa as a guiding light on the journey towards justice and peace.
